Getting ready for a Creative Christmas

Handmade gift wrap,
huge paper flowers,
paper bunting,
Washi tape notepads and gift bags......
these are a few of my favourite things....
and we made them all during our class on Saturday.
These boxes and flowers are some of the easiest and
most stunning projects to make for Christmas.
Do them in any colour combo you like
and make the flowers really BIG.

When making your bunting, ensure that the
paper you use as backing, is strong enough.
Before you make the fold to cover the string,
you can also put down a piece of double sided tape
on that fold (but don't remove the backing).
This will prevent the string from pulling through your paper.

Many uses for one product, that is my kind of product.
Buy a ready made notepad. Cut a sturdy craft cardstock
slightly bigger than the notepad.
Do your scoring and folding.
Then make some washi tape or use ready made ones.
For this note pad, we made washi tape from tissue tape,
crinkle paper, a serviette (napkin) and some
Tim Holtz tissue wrap.
So much fun and so easy to work with.

The last project on the day was to use up all the self made
washi tape and decorate Christmas favour bags,
using doilies, rubber-stamping and loads of imagination!!

Thanks to all of you who joined us for this class.
As always, we enjoyed it with you!

29 September Papier Plesier classes

Dear blog friends
Just a reminder that we have postponed our 9 August class to 29 September. to get you excited to book for the classes I will share a variety of craft caddies that I made for my two fellow co hosts of Pasella aired on SABC 2 on 12 September.

Jana's gift
Helene's gift

The craft caddy is so handy! On the photos you can see how I made the second one as a gift for a baby and the first one as a general storage space.

You can use it for your TV remotes, salt, pepper and salad dressings - just place it all in your caddy and put it down on your table. You will most definitely be the talk of the party!

In addition to the craft caddy you will make Beaded flowers as well.

Painting the canvas bags

We all really enjoyed the class on Saturday.
I had to do some preparation at home, a few days before the class.
Because the canvas has not been pre-washed, I had to
lay them in water for at least half an hour so that the fibers could soak up the water.
Then on Saturday morning, they had to go back into the water before the class.

Receiving a damp bag for the class was quite a surprise. But then the fun started,
choosing the colours, painting the bag, watching the colours blend and migrate, stamping
the image and then lastly, doing the stitching.

Here are the pictures off your bags.

Enjoy decorating your Tote bags!!

Scrapboxing!

Hi there! We are in the middle of the winter and as the days are starting to get longer and the nights shorter I decided to do a post on a project that I did for Craftwise magazine to promote my book Scrap it! in 2011. To my surprise the project was chosen as the front cover item for that particular issue.
Since then I received numerous request for the actual how-to of the box. The idea of the box is to store all your sewing / crafting / stationary in an organised and pretty box somewhere in your home. Instead of getting a box that you stick into a cupboard because it might not be appealing to the eye - with this quick and easy step-by-step instructions you could make your own masterpiece.

As published in Craftwise July / August 2011

I hope that this inspires you to get heated up for this winter and do some creative projects!

Creative greetings

Snap Journal

It was bitterly cold on Saturday, but we had a wonderful class with
some very crafty ladies. Here are the photos as promised.

On the front cover we did stamping, masking and spraying.
We even used a bit of coloured texture paint.
(The texture paint is a Dala product.)

Remember to sew a button to the front cover and use a ribbon or
string from the back cover to close up the journal.

On the inside front, glue down the embellished envelope.

For the page on the left, cut out a few flags from card stock.
Doodle the washing line and the borders around the flags.
Write down a quote.

For the page on the right we used Dala ink to colour the artist
water-colour paper. Some stamping, tissue tape and a bit of
glimmer mist were added to finish off the look and to create some depth.

On the corrugated paper we used acrylic paint and a foam stamp.
The edge was brushed with a sponge brush and the same acrylic paint.

The swirly stamp was stamped with white Brilliance ink and the tree
was stamped with black Archival ink.

Join the two seed envelopes with an off cut piece of paper to ensure they are stable.
Doodle all around the edges.

Dala Sunpaint was used to paint the canvas paper. Stamp on the canvas when the paint
is dry and use the same image to stamp onto old book paper. Cut out the images
and glue them down onto the canvas sheet. On a piece of raw canvas,
stamp a quote using black archival ink.

Remember you can do a lot of stitching or doodling to finish a look of each page.

Glue down some card stock strips on both sides of your plastic pockets.
Make a hole template and use it on each page to mark the holes.
Punch the holes and assemble the book using metal rings.

Remember, this is your book, do as you please and enjoy the process.
LOL !

9 Quick cards.

All the cards were made using paper from October Afternoon.

These are all 6"x 6" cards. The card stock is Bazzill's French Vanilla.

The colour of this craft paper works wonderfully
with the October Afternoon paper.
It enhances that antique look of the paper.
Having said that...... my grade 1 school books had pictures like this!!

Use the small off cuts of paper that lies around to
add a little something extra on the card.

Remember you can use the same layout with different paper.
Enjoy your card making.

Papier Plesier generic invitations

Hi Papier Plesier crafters!
I am sipping an aroma filled cappuccino while I type this blog post for you! I am super excited to share the news that our Papier Plesier classes are really in demand and I decided to make some easy and quick invitations for friends who would like to invite their friends or work colleagues before all the seats are filled!

You will need plain brown or white manila envelopes, dazzles or tattered angels glimmer mist, chalk and doilies!

The first step is to “bedazzle” your doily! I laid mine out on my favourite PINK Fiskars craft mat and sprayed the doilies pink with the Dazzle spray. Let it dry for a few minutes and then I folded it in half. I then adhered the bedazzled doily heart to the envelope.

I then used my Making memories Alphabet stamp set and stamped the word Papier Plesier onto the doily. Finally I typed up all the information of the event and printed it onto cardstock.

I then used my Cuttlebug machine with one of the dies and cut out a card.

I added ribbon and placed the invitation into the envelope!

I can now hand it out to all who will be attending!

Make sure to book your seat for the next Papier Plesier class.

Enjoy your crafting time

Just a few days to go

Hi everyone
This is my current huge "thing".
I wish that I could let you in on the gorgeous smell of these Soy Wax Candles.
We have scented them with Rooibos and Vanilla.
(These will be on sale, Saturday)

1. Candles gives instant atmosphere, and here is a candle wax that you can use on your skin.
2. It is a moisturizer and loaded with vit E and lecithin.
3. It is Eco friendly. (other candles are made of paraffin wax)
4. The wax melts at 39°C and is absorbed by your skin.

My ritual is: Light the candle before having your bath at night.
Then when you are all done and ready for bed, blow out the flame.
The pool of melted wax is then big enough to use on your feet, elbows and hands.

Over the weekend I turned my studio into a candle making factory
and they are now all ready to be decorated and packaged.

For all of those who has booked for the classes on Saturday,
you will be able to sample  this gorgeous product.
Keep well. See you then!

Friendship Canvasses

Hi everyone!

Thanks to all that attended our class on Saturday.
Here are the photos of the canvasses as I promised.

Remember Trick 7:
Place the double sided tape or 3D foam squares at the back of all your pieces of paper.

Remove the backing tape of a small piece.

Position and reposition every piece of paper, so that your layout make sense.
Then start removing the rest of backing tape.
With everything in position press down so that the glue can do its work.

Cut out the centre of the doily and spray it with a glimmer mist.
Create a flower by using layers.

Stamp the dress pattern image three times.
Once of craft paper, then on pink paper, then on green paper.
Cut out the two coloured images and adhere to the stamped image on the craft paper.

Place some small tags behind the mounted image.

Cut a craft envelope shorter and punch small holes through the top section
Create handles for the bag with wax cord.

Trim a doily, spray with glimmer mist and place inside the
shopping bag. Embellish the front.

Paint the sides of the three canvasses in a matching colour.
Use a border punch to alter some of the paper strips.
Use small elements form the paper to embellish all four sides of each canvas.

The paper I used for this project are from
I love the colours!

Keep well and thanks for stopping by.

Priority Mail!

Here are a few ideas for this handy little folder.
When hubby comes home and he needs to pay the bills,
you can hand it over to him in the folder.

Those school newsletters that keep on disappearing..
Let the kids put them in this folder so you can attend to it later.

On the inside there is an extra folder and a pocket to
help you keep things organized.

You can stitch the project together for some added detail
or just go for the double sided tape!

This project will also be on sale Saturday.
An ideal gift. Lots of small cards and tags inside.

See you Saturday!
